Nanohmics showcases capabilities at the 2006 Navy Opportunity Forum
June 5, 2006
Nanohmics technology and capabilities were showcased at the 2006 Navy Opportunity Forum held at the Washington Hilton in Washington DC June 5th through 7th. The event was attended by over 1700 individuals from various government agencies and large defense contractors. The goal of the Forum was to provide an effective way for acquisition officers, R&D managers, prime contractors, 1st and 2nd tier suppliers, and defense personnel to preview Navy-funded technologies developed by small businesses. Nanohmics personnel met with numerous government and prime contractor representatives to accelerate the transition of technologies, products, and services developed under the Small Business Innovation Research Program (SBIR) to military and commercial sales.
During the course of the conference, Nanohmics made a formal presentation describing an all solid-state, non-pyrotechnic flashbang grenade developed under a Marine Corp sponsored Phase II Small Business Innovative Research contract. Conventional pyrotechnic devices such as the XM84 and MK141 flash-bang grenades cannot be used in areas where flammable/explosive materials are present; consequently, Nanohmics developed a solid-state non-pyrotechnic replacement that produces a high-intensity light and piercing sound capable of disorienting potential adversaries. Additional functionality includes re-usability, variable flash frequency/intensity and adjustable event duration. It can be utilized for facilities protection, crowd control in enclosed spaces, roadside checkpoints and cockpit protection in addition to the targeted Clear-A-Space program. A working prototype has been developed and Nanohmics is currently working with a prime contractor to perform visual effects modeling and human use testing.
